Our Approach
Our approach utilizes programs, research, advocacy and partnerships
Programs
Delivering integrated programs that move women, youth, and children from crisis to stability, independence, and leadership.
Maama Watali delivers integrated, faith-informed programs that address the interconnected challenges facing racialised women, youth, and children, including gender-based violence, economic insecurity, and social exclusion. Our programs are designed to move participants beyond crisis response toward long-term stability, independence, and leadership.
By linking safety and healing to economic empowerment, education, and youth pathways, we generate outcomes that extend beyond individual participants. Women increase income and leadership capacity, families stabilise, and youth transition into education and employment. These program outcomes contribute to stronger local economies, reduced service dependency, and more resilient communities.
Research
Turning lived experience and program outcomes into evidence that informs policy, funding, and scalable solutions.
We translate lived experience into evidence that informs better policy, practice, and investment decisions. Through impact data, case studies, and program evaluations, Maama Watali documents both the effects of gender-based violence and the conditions that enable recovery, economic participation, and community engagement.
This work builds a growing evidence base on what works for Black and racialised communities in Canada. Our research supports funders, policymakers, and service providers by offering practical insights, scalable models, and data-informed recommendations that strengthen the broader ecosystem of support.
Over 10,000 lives touched — and we're just getting started.

Advocacy
Using community insight and data to shape policies and systems that better protect and include racialised populations.
Maama Watali engages in advocacy to address the systemic barriers that limit safety, equity, and opportunity for racialised populations. Grounded in program outcomes and community evidence, we work to elevate survivor voices, inform policy discussions, and shift public narratives on gender-based violence, financial inclusion, and racial equity.
Our advocacy extends the impact of our work beyond direct service delivery. By contributing data, lived experience, and practical solutions, we support governments and institutions in developing more responsive, inclusive, and effective policies.
Partnerships
Collaborating with governments, foundations, and institutions to scale proven models and embed lasting change.
Strategic partnerships enable Maama Watali to scale impact and integrate effective approaches into existing systems. We collaborate with governments, foundations, financial institutions, educational partners, and NGOs to embed our models within broader programs and services.
These partnerships leverage shared resources, infrastructure, and expertise to reach more people and sustain long-term outcomes. By acting as a bridge between community trust and institutional systems, Maama Watali helps ensure that proven solutions are replicated, strengthened, and sustained across Canada.
